Uber x Wayve: Event Production for a Partnership Launch

YES Events recently delivered technical production for the launch of the partnership between Uber and Wayve at Lindley Hall in London, helping transform the venue into a traditional London street to showcase their autonomous vehicles.

Working with an agency partner, we supplied video, lighting and audio to bring the concept to life. With just three weeks from the initial enquiry to the live event, the team worked to a tight deadline to deliver a production combining digital billboards, programmed lighting and bespoke set elements.

Creating a London Street with LED Video Walls

A key part of the brief was to recreate the feel of a real London street, complete with two autonomous vehicles positioned along a central road. Three large LED video walls were installed around the venue to act as digital billboards, displaying advertising content featuring the vehicles throughout the event.

We used our new Uniview UR Pro LED video wall, with a 2.6mm pixel pitch selected to provide a clear, detailed picture for guests standing close to the screens, while maintaining image quality across the room. The video walls operated as standalone systems to minimise cabling and keep the installation neat within the finished set.

Creating Atmosphere with Event Lighting

Lighting played an important role in bringing the street scene to life, with three programmed looks designed to take the event from daytime through sunset and into nighttime.

Our overhead truss rig featured Ayrton Rivale, Chauvet Rogue Outcast 2X Wash and ROXX NEO fixtures. These helped create the different atmospheres required throughout the evening, from warm daytime lighting and the transition into sunset to a more colourful, energetic party environment.

Astera AX5 fixtures were used as uplighters around the room, adding to the overall atmosphere while helping integrate the lighting into the wider set design.

Lighting was also incorporated into the house set at the rear of the venue. Warm white light behind its frosted windows helped suggest activity inside during the daytime and sunset phases, before changing colour to create the impression of a party taking place within the house.

Rigging and Bespoke Set Integration

To keep the production integrated within the space, we installed a six-point motor and truss system above the vehicles, suspending the lighting rig and room-filling PA.

The team also built a bespoke deck platform, which was clad by the set team to form part of the house design. This allowed the technical installation and scenic elements to work together as one cohesive environment.

The venue presented some additional challenges during the build, including coordinating loading access and lifting equipment into the hall alongside other suppliers. A requirement to keep metal equipment off the venue floor also meant that truss and lifting equipment had to be positioned on carpet tiles.

Delivering the Finished Production

With a short turnaround and detailed venue documentation required before access could be granted, careful planning and coordination were essential. The team prepared structural reports, load reports and detailed ceiling truss plans, alongside the other technical documentation needed for the installation.

The finished production brought together LED video, lighting and set design to create an immersive London street environment, with the lighting transitions allowing the atmosphere to evolve throughout the evening. The event also reached a wider audience through content shared by the clients and attending influencers on social media.

The project was a great example of how careful planning, technical expertise and collaboration can bring a creative vision to life, even within a demanding timeframe.
